A few days after the defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, more than 90 AAP MLAs and 13 MPs of Lok Sabha-Rajya Sabha reached Kapurthala House in Delhi to meet Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal. . However, this meeting lasted only 25 minutes, but since then speculation about Kejriwal’s political future has intensified.
What options do AAP have?
The AAP is currently in power only in Punjab and its term is up to 2027. In such a situation, some possibilities are coming out for the party and themselves Kejriwal.
1. Will Kejriwal become Rajya Sabha MP?
Kejriwal can go from Punjab to Rajya Sabha.
AAP has 10 Rajya Sabha MPs – 7 from Punjab and 3 from Delhi.
If AAP resigns an existing Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, then Kejriwal’s entry may be possible.
If an MP from Delhi resigns, then the AAP seat cannot win back as the party no longer has a majority. But due to 93 MLAs in Punjab, AAP can easily win the Rajya Sabha seat there.
Sandeep Pathak, who is the National General Secretary of AAP and Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, can plan to enter Kejriwal in Rajya Sabha.
Sandeep Pathak’s term is up to 2028, so Kejriwal can focus on 2029-30 Delhi elections after 2028.
Apart from this, there will also be an opportunity to work with senior leaders in the upper house of Parliament (Rajya Sabha).
2. Will Kejriwal become the Chief Minister of Punjab?
AAP leaders have rejected this possibility and said that Bhagwant Mann will remain the Chief Minister till 2027.
But in view of Kejriwal’s increasing interest in Punjab politics, speculation continues.
How can CM become?
- The by -election is to be held in Ludhiana West Assembly seat in Punjab.
- If Kejriwal contests and win elections from here, he can enter the assembly.
- After this, there can be a possibility of becoming the Chief Minister in place of Bhagwant Mann.
Senior AAP leaders Malvinder Singh Kong and Gurmeet Singh described this possibility as just speculation and said that nothing is going to happen.
Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said that Kejriwal cannot live without power and he will either try to become the Chief Minister of Punjab or become a Rajya Sabha MP.
But he also said, “Punjab does not accept outsiders” and if Kejriwal becomes CM, mid -term elections can be held in the state.
3. Will you remain the national convenor of AAP?
The third option for Kejriwal is to focus on your party and continue in the post of national convenor.
Some AAP leaders believe that this would be the best decision as the party now needs strong leadership.
43% vote share remains in Delhi, so turning to Punjab will not be the right strategy.
Legal problems can also affect Kejriwal’s political decisions.
