Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Lasudia police registered a case against a man and his parents for deceiving a woman and cheating her of more than Rs 35 lakh. The accused have been identified as Sagar Gogade, his father Basant and mother Savitri, residents of Scheme No. 114. Sagar married the woman pretending he was well-off and his father was a municipal officer.

According to the police, a woman of Kanadiya lodged a complaint that she ran a transport business and met Sagar at a marriage. He took her contact number, started talking to her and later sent a proposal for marriage. Sagar told her that he worked in an insurance company and earned lakhs per month.

Their families met and discussed marriage. However, when Sagar later told her that he had been previously married, the woman refused to marry him. To convince her, Sagar along with his family and friends, pressured her into marriage. He then moved into her house as a live-in partner.

How the woman was duped

Initially, Sagar spent lavishly, giving an impression of financial stability. He then married the woman at Khajrana Ganesh Temple. After the marriage, he became addicted to alcohol and drugs. He repeatedly demanded money from her and would disappear for days.

Between 2020 and 2024, he managed to get Rs 30 lakh transferred online for expenses like rent, shopping, flight tickets, hotels and medical bills. Additionally, he took Rs 7.5 lakh in cash. Later, Sagar began raising suspicion about the woman’s character and pressured her to leave him.

When she asked for her money, he assaulted her. Later, he left her and disappeared. The police have registered a case against the accused under sections 420, 406, 120(B), 34 of the IPC and further investigation is underway.
