Pune: Rishiraj Sawant, son of former Maharashtra Health Minister and Shiv Sena deputy leader Tanaji Sawant, who was reported missing, returned to Pune on Monday night. He was on his way to Bangkok in a private plane but made a return to Pune after the cops contacted them near Chennai mid-air.
Pune Joint Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma, accompanied by Tanaji Sawant, informed reporters that Rishiraj had departed for Bangkok without informing his family. The Pune Police had registered a missing person case after receiving a call in the afternoon, claiming that Rishiraj had been taken away by an unknown person. Following the alert, a police team reached the airport and launched an investigation.
Mysterious Journey to Bangkok
Sharma explained that after initial inquiries, it was discovered that Rishiraj had voluntarily left for Bangkok. “He had booked a private plane and travelled with two of his friends. However, his family was unaware of his departure,” Sharma said.
The police tracked the private plane and ensured his safe return. “Since a missing complaint was filed, we will be questioning Rishiraj about his trip. The reasons behind his sudden travel plans and why he did not inform his family will be investigated,” the Joint Commissioner added.
Family’s Shock & Concern
Tanaji Sawant expressed his surprise over his son’s actions. “Rishiraj left without informing anyone. The driver mentioned he went to the airport, but we had no disputes, and there was no reason for him to leave like this. We were all worried,” he said.
The incident has raised questions about the purpose of Rishiraj’s trip. “We need to understand why he planned this visit and why his family was kept in the dark,” Sharma stated. The police had contacted multiple agencies to trace Rishiraj before he finally returned to Pune. With the case now registered, further inquiries will determine the circumstances surrounding his sudden disappearance and international travel.
