Social media influencer Uorfi Javed has spoken out regarding the recent controversy surrounding YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s comments during his appearance on comedian Samay Raina’s show India’s Got Latent. While she criticised the remarks as ‘distasteful’, Uorfi also stated that such actions should not warrant imprisonment.

The incident in question involved Ranveer posing an inappropriate question to a contestant, which led to public backlash and legal complaints. He asked the contestant, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever.”

Uorfi Javed, who has previously appeared on India’s Got Latent and walked out during an episode due to offensive and derogatory remarks directed at her, took to her Instagram story on Monday to share her perspective on the current controversy.

She wrote, “You don’t like certain people, you don’t like the things that they do or say but demanding for them to go to jail for that? Are you serious? Ummmm! I don’t know.”

“Samay is a friend, I have his back but even rest of the people on the panel, what they said was distasteful yes but I don’t think they deserve to go to jail for that,” the fashionista added.

Complaints against the influencers

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis acknowledged the issue while talking to media persons on Monday (February 10), stating that while freedom of speech is important, it should not infringe upon others’ rights, and appropriate action would be taken if societal norms are violated.

Several complaints have also been lodged against not only Ranveer but the other panellists including Samay, Apoorva Makhija aka The Rebel Kid and Ashish Chanchlani for use of ‘abusive language’ and for promoting ‘obscenity’ on India’s Got Latent.

Ranveer Allahabadia’s apology

In response to the public outcry, Ranveer issued an apology, describing his comments as a “lapse in judgment”. He asked for forgiveness and stated that comedy is not his forte. He assured that the controversial segments were removed from the show’s recording.

Samay and Apoorva have not reactef to the controversy yet.
