BJP’s MLA was preparing to sit in opposition
BJP has 32 MLAs in the state. In the last 21 months, several cookie BJP MLAs including Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Y Khemchand refused to attend the meetings called by the Chief Minister. Instead, he was contacting the central leadership in Delhi. It is also reported that at least five BJP MLAs have announced to sit in opposition. The central leadership of the BJP has been informed about this. At the same time, 10 other BJP MLAs promised to sit in the opposition and not support the protesting MLAs.
Ministers were also among these MLAs. The Chief Minister knew all this and the central leadership was informed about it regularly. He then decided to resign. According to reports, when the Chief Minister went to meet the Governor on Sunday, less than 20 MLAs came in support.

The Supreme Court on 3 February sought forensic report in a sealed envelope on the authenticity of the leaked audio clip, accusing Biren Singh’s role in caste violence in Manipur. A bench of Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar sought a report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) on a petition filed by the Cookie Organization for Human Rights Trust (Kohur) within six weeks and postponed the hearing till 24 March .
Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing on behalf of Kohur, requested the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct an inquiry under the supervision of the court of the Chief Minister’s alleged role in caste violence. Bhushan had termed the content of the leaked audio clip as a ‘very serious matter’ and said that in the clip, the Chief Minister was allegedly saying that the Metai groups were allowed to loot the weapons and ammunition of the state government. . More than 250 people have been killed and thousands of people have become homeless since caste violence erupted in the state in May 2023.
Preparations were on to bring a motion of no confidence.
The Congress had indicated that it would bring a no -confidence motion during the upcoming assembly session. Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Okram Ibobi Singh has urged the Governor to advise the Chief Minister to avoid intimidating the members of the state assembly. A senior BJP leader said that during the no -confidence motion, the dissidents had indicated that they would vote against Biren Singh.
