Mumbai: The will of Ratan Tata, who died last year, has surprised everybody as the iconic businessman had left one-third of his residual estate for a mystery man. Everyone is curious to know about Mohini Mohan Dutta, who is named in Tata’s will. Dutta is reportedly a Jamshedpur-based entrepreneur.
As per Tata’s will, Dutta is entitled to one-third of the residual estate, including bank deposits of over Rs 350 crore and the amount collected by selling personal items like paintings and timepieces, reported The Times of India. Meanwhile, the remaining two-thirds will reportedly go to Tata’s half-sisters, Shireen Jejeebhoy and Deanna Jejeebhoy. They are also the will’s executors after Tata’s death in October 2024.
Who is Mohini Mohan Dutta?
Mohini Mohan Dutta is a 74-year-old Jamshedpur-based entrepreneur whose professional journey began with the Taj Group. He is the co-owner of Stallion. It later became part of the Taj Services. In 2013, Stallion merged with Taj Services with Dutta having an 80 per cent stake in the venture and remaining with the Tata industries.
As per a report by The Economic Times, Dutta first met Ratan Tata in Jamshedpur at the Dealers’ Hostel in the early 1960s when Tata was 24 years old. Before the will, very few people had heard about Dutta. According to reports, he was also one of the invitees to Ratan Tata’s birth anniversary celebrations held at Mumbai’s NCPA in December last year.
Notably, Dutta’s daughter also worked with the Tata Group. According to a report in Fortune, she initially worked at the Taj Hotels until 2015 and then with Tata Trusts until last year.
The revered former chairman of Tata Sons, Ratan Tata, passed away on October 9, 2024, at the age of 86 leaving behind a legacy rooted in business and philanthropy. Tata’s executive assistant Shantanu Naidu also received a significant share in his will.
