Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A notification for the shortest of the Vidhan Sabha budget sessions in the state was issued on Thursday. There will be nine sittings of the 15-day budget session which will begin from March 10 and continue till March 24.

There were 14 sittings in the last year’s budget session, but only five could be held. The budget is considered to be the most important session of Vidhan Sabha. In this session, the budget is presented after the Governor’s address.

The budget and the Governor’s address are discussed in the House. Apart from that, the budgets of the departments and the bills are discussed during the session. In the past ten years, there were 23 sittings in 2016, 23 in 2017, 18 in 2018, 17 in 2019, 17 in 2020, 23 in 2021, 13 in 2022, and 13 sittings in 2023. According to Deputy Leader of Opposition Hemant Katare, the budget session is the most important session of the House.

In this session, every legislator has an opportunity to put up their views on all the departments, he said. The government and the Speaker must review the timings for the session, he said. Since Vidhan Sabha is the temple of democracy, the government should not keep away from discussions, Katare said.
