Mumbai – Tension prevails in Nalasopara on Wednesday, as a large number of residents took to the streets to protest against action against 41 illegal buildings. Therefore, immediate additional police force had to be called to control the situation. Due to this tension, no action could be taken on Wednesday.

Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation is taking action against 41 unauthorized buildings in Nalasopara-East. This work has started from 23 January. So far, the municipality has been successful in occupying the land by vacating 16 buildings. On Wednesday morning, as usual, the municipality team went for action. However, a large number of residents of buildings came out on the streets and strongly opposed this action. The residents protested on the streets, saying, “Rehabilitate us, otherwise we will commit self -immolation.” This caused tension for some time. After this, additional police force was called. Officers of Valive, Tulinj, Achole, Virar police stations along with their teams reached the spot and blocked the roads. After this, the residents were dispersed using light police force. The riot control teams and Maharashtra Security Force personnel were also deployed to prevent any untoward incident.

So far there has been no major violent opposition to the proceedings. However, the residents led by some organizations took to the streets and protested. Deepak Sawant, Head of the Municipal Corporation’s unauthorized anti -construction team, said that, we have been successful in convincing the residents through mediation. People were told that the house would be given in lieu of the house. However, in this case, since it is an unauthorized construction, this way cannot be given home in exchange for home. People were also explained that this action is being taken on the orders of the Supreme Court. The municipality also called the lawyers on the spot to ensure that the process is legal.

Where to go if we go? Question of residents

We are being asked to vacate the house, but on the other hand, where and how will we bring a deposit of 50 thousand to buy a rented house? This question was asked by a resident woman. The central government says that they will give us homes in exchange for home, so give us a second house, this woman said with tears in his eyes. Our house was not unauthorized for so many years. We were taxed, we were also given the right to vote. Now suddenly our houses have been declared illegal. Residents have raised the question that if we vacate the house then where will we go.

Police will be deployed till the last building collapses

All 41 buildings will be evacuated. There is no time limit for this. In this regard, Deputy Commissioner Deepak Sawant had said that action will be taken against people without any pressure. We will provide necessary police forces for this operation. In this regard, Deputy Commissioner of Circle-2, Poonam Chougule-Shringi said that the police will be deployed on the spot till the last building collapses.
