Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A bizarre case of a drunkard came to light on Wednesday in the city when police seized 5 ‘stolen’ bikes from his possession. Reason? Addiction, the urge to save money to be later spent on buying liquor and laziness to walk.

Every morning, Ravi Verma, a labourer, left his house at 4 am to work hard but what differentiates him is his steely resolve to satisfy his urge for alcohol. On top of it, he was too lazy to walk and always had three ‘master keys’ in his pocket.

Firm on his addiction, Verma used to save on his transportation cost by trying his luck on random bikes with his ‘magic keys’ and went towards a liquor vend on the stolen bike until its fuel ran out. Tipsy and lazy he then abandoned it and picked another bike from there to go to the liquor vend. ACP Tushar Singh said that Chhoti  Gwaltoli police arrested Ravi Verma of Aerodrome and recovered five stolen bikes, including one belonging to a policeman.

Based on CCTV footage and technical assistance, the police were able to track him down. He is addicted to alcohol and spends all his money on liquor. To commute from one place to another, he used to steal parked bikes at different public places using master keys and abandon them when they ran out of fuel. The police faced difficulty retrieving information about the stolen bikes, as Verma remained so intoxicated that he often forgot where he had left them.

Preliminary investigation revealed that he did not sell any of the stolen bikes, rather he used them solely for transportation. He had stolen two bikes from Sarwate Bus Stand, one from MY Hospital premises, one from the ACP Sarafa office and one from the vicinity of Ranjeet Hanuman Temple. A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the BNS and he is being further interrogated regarding any previous criminal activities.
