Pimpri-Chinchwad: Shirish More, 11th-Generation Descendant Of Sant Tukaram Maharaj, Dies By Suicide 20 Days After Engagement; Financial Hardship Suspected | Sourced

17th-century Marathi poet-saint Sant Tukaram Maharaj’s 11th-generation descendant, Shirish More, died by suicide on Wednesday morning, officials said. This shocking development reportedly comes just 20 days after his engagement. He was 32 years old.

According to the police, More was found hanging at his residence in Pimpri-Chinchwad’s Dehu. As soon as the police were alerted, they arrived at the scene and found the body tied with a cloth to a ceiling fan hook. The body was then sent to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH) in Pimpri for postmortem.

“Till 8:30am, More had not come out of his room on the first floor of the house. When his family members knocked on his door, he did not respond. Worried, they alerted the police, who arrived and broke open the door, only to find his lifeless body hanging to the ceiling,” Vikram Bansode, Senior Police Inspector, Dehu Road Police Station, said.

According to preliminary investigation, police suspect that he died by suicide due to financial hardship. He has also left a suicide note, however, the contents of the note are yet to be revealed. Reportedly, he had completely formatted the data of his mobile phone before taking the extreme step, which added complexity to the case.

More was active socially and politically. While he was a well-known kirtankar and spiritual speaker, he was also a propagator of the Hindutva ideology. He also reportedly followed the controversial right-wing activist Sambhaji Bhide.

Meanwhile, an accidental death report has been registered at the Dehu Road Police Station. Senior Police Inspector Vikram Bansode is conducting further investigation
