New Delhi: The Supreme Court has taken a dig at the Assam government to keep foreign declared people in custody for years. The Supreme Court had asked the Assam government whether they are waiting for a moment to send these people to their country. How can you keep someone in custody indefinitely? Article 21 of the Constitution provides some rights that should be taken into consideration. Those who have been declared foreigners should be sent to their country immediately.
More than 60 foreigners have been closed for more than 60 years in various custody centers in Assam. On this, the Assam government gave a strange answer to the Supreme Court in its defense and said that these people are foreigners but they have no idea, so they were not sent abroad. In response, a bench of Supreme Court Justice Abhay S Oka and Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan expressed surprise, saying, “You don’t know what are the capitals of different countries?” If any of the detained citizens are from Pakistan, do you not know that the capital of Pakistan is Islamabad? Let them reach the capital of their country.
Senior Supreme Court advocate Colin Gonzalvis was arguing on behalf of a petitioner. He claimed in front of the Supreme Court that these people have been living in the detention center for 10 years, trying to convince Bangladesh to accept them, while Bangladesh says that these people are not its citizens, of India. It is said that these people are not Indians, all these people are currently stateless. It is being claimed that they are Rohingya, so the central and state governments should present evidence. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that this matter is not a state case, we will sit with the Ministry of External Affairs and discuss this issue.
Later, the Supreme Court sought information about all foreigners detained from the central government, as well as a list of people who have been declared abroad, but whose original country is not known. Now further hearing of this case will be held on 25 February. Earlier on January 22, the Assam government was criticized, as the affidavit of the Assam government was described as flawless and the government was asked why 270 foreigners were kept in Matia Camp, but Assam It was criticized after the government did not give proper answers.
