New Delhi: Voting for the 70 assembly seats in the national capital will take place today (February 5, 2025). The poll campaign for the elections concluded on Monday, with party leaders holding massive rallies and road shows to woo the voters.
The polls will begin at 7:00 AM and end at 6:00 PM today. As per the guidelines issued by the Election Commission, the publication and conduct of the exit polls have been strictly prohibited during these hours to ensure a fair and unbiased election process. These directives fall under the provision of the Representation of the People Act.
“In exercise of the powers under sub-Section (1) of Section 126A of the R.P. Act, 1951, the Election Commission, having regard to the provisions of Sub-Section (2) of the said Section, hereby notifies the period between 7.00 am to 6.30 pm on 05.02.2025 (Wednesday) as the period during which conducting and publishing or publicising exit poll by means of the print or electronic media or dissemination in any other manner whatsoever, the result of any exit poll in connection with the aforesaid general and bye-elections, shall be prohibited,” a section of the notification read.
The statement further said, “Under Section 126(1)(b) of the R.P. Act, 1951, displaying any election matter including results of any opinion poll or any other poll survey, in any electronic media, would be prohibited during the period of 48 hours ending with the hours fixed for the conclusion of the poll in connection with the aforesaid general and bye-elections.”
The Delhi elections have seen fierce campaigning, with AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal, BJP’s Narendra Modi, and Congress’s Rahul Gandhi leading intense political battles. The campaign has been marked by sharp exchanges, promises, and controversies.
The results on February 8 will decide if AAP secures a third term in the capital city or if BJP and Congress can regain ground. With 699 candidates vying for 70 seats, the competition is tough.
