The Anti-Narcotics Cell of Thane police arrested two individuals for allegedly possessing 115 grams of mephedrone (MD) worth over ₹25 lakh, intended for sale in Thane. The accused have been identified as Moin Mohammad Arif Nirban (29) and Mohammad Muzamil Liyaqat Ansari (25), both residents of Mira Road.

According to the police, on January 25, Police Constable Amol Desai received information that two men would be arriving at Manpada near Happy Valley Circle to sell contraband. He alerted his senior officials, following which a team was formed. The team laid a trap, apprehended the suspects, and found 152.5 grams of MD powder worth ₹25,88,820 in their possession.

The police confiscated the MD powder and registered a case under Sections 8(c), 22(c), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused were arrested and produced before the NDPS court in Thane, which remanded them to police custody for further investigation.

Authorities are now probing the source of the contraband, identifying potential buyers, and investigating whether additional drugs are being concealed elsewhere.
