Mumbai: The Western Railway has declared that there would be no blocking of the tracks for maintenance work between Saphale and Kelve Road, or between Virar and Vaitarna stations, on Sunday (February 9, 2025). The set advisory for daily commuters and the major train block was announced a few days prior, however, the decision to set up the block on the Western Railway has now been rescinded, providing commuters some relief. “All affected trains, as notified earlier, will run as per the scheduled timings,” the Western Railway was quoted as saying by Mid-Day.
Earlier, Western Railway recently announced that a block will be taken on Saturday/Sunday, February 1st/02nd, and Sunday, February 9th, 2025. Some trains on the Western Railway will be impacted by this in order to launch the PSC slab and girder between Virar & Vaitarna and Saphale & Kelve Road, the UP & Down Main Line.
Blocks can have a significant impact on commuters because Mumbai Western Railway has a large number of daily commuters. Western Railway stated on X that “this major infra work will not only enhance safety over the suburban section but also ensure,” lately, which is why they decided to keep the block in place. They also mentioned that many trains will run late, but now passengers won’t face any issue considering the block is taken back.
Sunday Mumbai Local Mega Block
On most Sundays, Central Railway and Western Railway operate the Mumbai Mega Block and Jumbo Block for engineering work on the railway lines also for rail track maintenance. Many trains are delayed and get cancelled on Sundays because of this kind of mega block.
