Netizens have come across another unusual wedding invitation. This time, a couple gave their celebration a different twist by designing a ration-card-themed wedding card.
A groom from Kerala, who is popularly called “Ration shop boy”, created a unique invite for his wedding. Identified as Jyothish R Pillai, the groom designed a card that resembled a ration card. The incident is going viral and it narrates his creative approach to pay homage to his family’s long-standing connection with the local ration shop.
Pillai’s story was shared in Kerala-based news media Mathrubhumi along with pictures of the quirky wedding invitation card.
Know the story behind the ration-card-themed wedding invite
Jyothish, who hails from the Enathu village of Pathanamthitta in Kerala, has caught the attention of social media users with his wedding invitation. The card comes as a heartfelt nod to his family’s history, which details him growing up helping his mother at their ration shop. As he spent most of his time with his working mother at the shop, he became affectionately known as the “ration shop boy.”
Years later, when he now prepares to embark on a new chapter with his bride, G H Devika, he reflected on his childhood days and the name he received from the locals. His wedding card was thus designed like a ration card, paying tribute to his mother’s service there.
Family’s association with ration shop
According to the report in Mathrubhumi, Pillai’s great-uncle was the original owner, followed by his father, K K Ravindran Pillai. After his father’s passing in 2003, the groom’s mother continued to run the shop, where Pillai grew up during his young age.
The entire invitation is drafted in Malayalam. It is said to carry all details about the celebration, however, in a ration-card like format.
The wedding took place on February 2, as per the invitation.
