Playback singer Sonu Nigam has once again clarified that he is not on X (formerly Twitter) after an impersonator shared a misleading post using his name and photo. The user in question posted a picture of Sonu Nigam with President Droupadi Murmu. Reacting strongly, Sonu Nigam took to Instagram on Tuesday (February 4) to warn his followers about the account. He expressed concern over how easily people could be misled, especially since he had actually met the President recently.

“I am not on Twitter or X. Can you imagine a single controversial post from this ‘Sonu Nigam Singh’ can put me or my family’s life in danger? Can you imagine to what extent this man has been playing with my name and credibility? For no fault of ours. And the press, administration, government, law, who know about this, are all quiet. Waiting for something to happen and then convey condolences,” the singer wrote on Instagram.

Along with his statement, Sonu also shared a screenshot of the fake post and questioned, “Isn’t this misleading? Why wouldn’t people assume it’s the real me?”

This is not the first time Sonu Nigam has addressed the issue. In June 2024, he had issued a similar clarification after the same impersonator posted a sensational political remark, causing confusion among netizens and the media. Back then, the ‘Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin’ singer also threatened legal action against the user.

Despite his repeated warnings from the singer, the fake account remains active, raising concerns about identity misuse and online safety.

In response, the user had mentioned that his real name is ‘Sonu Nigam’ and reiterated that it is not his fault if social media users mistook him for the singer. In a long social media post, he had also mentioned that the accusations against him are ‘unfair’ and have caused him ‘distress’.

It may be mentioned that the X account has been followed by Union Minister Piyush Goyal, BJP chief JP Nadda, former Union Minister Birender Singh and other politicians. The user is quite active on the platform and has over 80,000 followers.
