In the Rajya Sabha, the statement made by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on the Mahakumbh stampede erupted a sharp debate between the ruling and the opposition. Kharge claimed that thousands of people died in the stampede, after which there was a strong uproar in the Parliament. The ruling MPs opposed this statement, while Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar also asked Kharge to withdraw his statement.
Kharge’s statement: “Thousands died”
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said:
“Thousands of people lost their lives in the stampede that took place in Mahakumbh. I pay tribute to all of them. “
As soon as he said this, the MPs of the ruling party strongly opposed it and the uproar started.
Kharge gave clarification and said:
“I am not raising a finger on anyone. According to pictures and crowd, I guess that thousands of people were killed. If I am wrong then the government gives the right figures, I am ready to apologize. The government should tell how many people were killed and how many are missing. ”
Chairman objected, government gave official figures
Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said that the Leader of the Opposition has given thousands of deaths, which is shocked.
“It is a matter of dignity of the House. The matter said here affects the whole world. In such a situation, it is not right to make such a statement without certified data. ”
According to the official data released by the government,
A total of 30 people died and many were injured in a stampede that took place on the day of Mauni Amavasya (29 January).
Ram Gopal Yadav has also given such a statement
Earlier, Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav had also claimed that thousands of people were killed in Mahakumbh. He alleged that “many bodies were shed in the Ganges and many people were suppressed.”
