The Supreme Court refused to hear the PIL seeking issuing guidelines for the safety of devotees at Prayagraj Mahakumbh. The court directed the petitioner to go to Allahabad High Court. The court noted the argument of the Uttar Pradesh government that a petition had already been filed in the Allahabad High Court. The Supreme Court described the incident of stampede in Kumbh on 29 November as unfortunate and asked the petitioner to go to the High Court.
In fact, Supreme Court lawyer Vishal Tiwari filed a PIL regarding the stampede in Kumbh. It demanded compliance with guidelines and rules for the protection of devotees across the country. On the night of 28/29 January, on the occasion of Mauni Amavas, there was a stampede at Sangam Noj at around 1.30 pm. People crushed people. According to the government, 30 people were killed and 60 people were injured.
The petition has demanded that signboards should be installed in various languages to help the devotees in Mahakumbh. All states should set up their own facility centers so that they can help their people in an emergency. Be prepared to help in emergency, security protocol should be given through SMS and WhatsApp. The VIV movement should not affect the safety of common devotees nor should they be any threat. During the Mahakumbh, several routes should be made for the arrival and departure of the devotees. A report should be submitted on the stampede. Legal action should be initiated against negligent persons and officials, which the Supreme Court has refused to hear.
