Delhi Police on Monday detained Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, who along with a group of women from Purvanchal, reached AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s residence with the water they collected from the Yamuna River.

Before being detained, Maliwal spoke with news agency ANI and accused Kejriwal of turning Yamuna River into a drain.

” Black dirty rotten water is flowing in Yamuna. The river is on a ventilator, while Arvind Kejriwal is in his palace and roams around in luxurious cars. Thousands of women from Purvanchal have come here to challenge him- he should not be so scared of women and should come out and take a dip in the dirty water of Yamuna and take a sip of that water… The women of Purvanchal are saying that he will be cursed by Chhathi Maiya because the women have no other place to celebrate Chhath,” she said.

Maliwal, who was detained by Delhi Police on Thursday last week for strewing garbage outside former Delhi CM’s residence, had reached outside Kerjiwal’s residence with the water they collected from the Yamuna River earlier today.

Once known as one of Kejriwal’s close aides, Maliwal has turned hostile towards the AAP and Kejriwal following an alleged assault on her at the Delhi CM’s residence in May last year.

Since then, she has taken every opportunity to criticise Kejriwal and other AAP leaders.
