Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A dental college student was duped of Rs 27,000 by a conman but police managed to recover Rs 20,000 within 24 hours of the incident, an official said on Sunday. The student had received a call from the conman, who posed as her father’s friend.

Additional DCP (zone-1) Alok Kumar Sharma said that Kulasa Patidar, student of a dental college who stays in a hostel in Rau, lodged a complaint with the cyber helpdesk that she had received a call from an unidentified person, who introduced himself as Begh, her father’s friend.

He later informed her that he had to repay Rs 3,000 to her father, who had told him to transfer the amount to her (complainant’s) bank account. The conman gained her trust so she allowed him to transfer the money.

After a few minutes, she received a message showing transactions of Rs 30,000. She called the man and asked why he had sent such a large amount. The conman replied that he had mistakenly sent Rs 30,000 to her and requested her to return the remaining amount.

She sent him Rs 27,000 in three different transactions but later found that no amount was credited to her bank account. However, Rs 27,000 were transferred to him from her bank account. She then lodged a complaint with the cyber helpdesk of zone-1. The police immediately froze the bank account which was used for receiving the money and managed to recover Rs 20,000 within 24 hours of the incident.
