Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh, who was recently seen in Hisaab Barabar directed by Ashwni Dhir, revealed that he was detained at New York airport while filming for the 2009 thriller action film New York with Katrina Kaif and John Abraham, after officials refused to believe he was Indian.
Speaking to Mashable India, Neil said, “When I was doing the film New York, I was detained at the airport there. They refused to believe that I had an Indian passport and that I was Indian. So it became quite big news that I was detained. They didn’t even let me answer or say anything for myself.”
Neil furthermore revealed that after being held for almost four hours, the officials asked him to reveal his identity. “They came and asked, ‘What do you have to say?’ and I simply said, ‘Just Google me.’ Then they were so embarrassed that they started questioning me about my legacy, my grandfather, and my father,” he added.
Neil is the son of playback singer Nitin Mukesh and grandson of singer Mukesh.
The actor made his acting debut as a child artist in the 1988 film Vijay and later Jaisi Karni Waisi Bharnii. In 2007, he played the lead role in Johnny Gaddaar with Dharmendra, Rimi Sen, among others.
