Celebrations broke out among the Indian U19 women’s team after they won the T20 World Cup final by nine wickets against South Africa on Sunday at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur. In a video shared by the ICC on social media, players were seen wrapping the tri-colour around them to commemorate their win.
The Women in Blue had reached the final of the tournament unbeaten and delivered a power-packed bowling performance, bowling the South Africans out for only 83 in an innings that lasted full 20 overs. However, only four out of their 11 batters reached double-figures. Gongadi Trisha finished as the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4-0-15-3, while Parunika Sisodia, Aayushi Shukla and Vaishnavi Sharma took two each.
Trisha also starred with the bat later to finish unbeaten on 44, while Sanika Chalke stayed not out on 26. Below is the video of Indian U19 team celebrating their victory:
“Thanks to the BCCI for giving us the best facilities” – Niki Prasad
Skipper Niki Prasad said their aim was to keep India at the top and equally praised South Africa for the character they showed throughout the tournament. Prasad said at the post-match presentation:
“We wanted to go out there and show what we can do. Thanks to the BCCI for giving us the best facilities. I’m feeling happy that I’m right here standing, making sure India stays on top. It’s a special moment. Start of the tournament I mentioned we’re here to dominate, to ensure India is here to stay on top. The South Africans have been playing really well, we’ve been playing against them for a long time, the character they’ve shown is nice to see, really nice to compete against them.”
