Canada-America: US President Donald Trump on Saturday (1 February) ordered 25 percent import duty on all goods imported from Canada. Now in this regard, Canadian acting Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced a 25 percent tariff on US imports. He said, “Our country is ready to face American tariffs.”
Trump threatens to impose tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order, under which 10 percent on all imports from China and 25 percent on imports from Mexico and Canada. However, the energy imported from Canada, including oil, natural gas and electricity, will be taxed at a rate of 10 percent.
‘Canada is ready’
After Trump’s announcement, Justin Trudeau posted on the social media platform ‘X’ and wrote, ‘We will soon talk to Mexican President Claudia Shinbam and have also met his cabinet to discuss the issue.’ We did not want so, but Canada is ready. These tariffs are a violation of the free trade agreement signed a few years ago.
Trudeau warned of retaliation
A day before Donald Trump signed an executive order, Justin Trudeau warned that if the US puts a tariff, there would be a tough and immediate response. No one wants to see American tariffs on Canadian objects on both sides of the border. “We are working hard to stop these charges, but if America moves forward, Canada is ready for a strong and immediate response.”
