Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Special Police Establishment (SPE) of Lokayukta has focused on the properties of former constable of the Transport Department Saurabh Sharma after taking him into custody. The probe agency is barely going into the rip-off through which Sharma made established a big empire.
Sharma made money through extortions at check posts of the Transport Department. But the SPE is yet to probe this aspect of the case. Not a single officer of the department has been called to its office for questioning.
Because Sharma was a public servant, his residential premises were raided. So, it should be brought within the purview of the inquiry about how Sharma made such a huge amount of money, but the SPE seems to have avoided it so far. Sharma’s role in extortions at check posts has not yet come to light.
On the other hand, sources said that Sharma had played an important role in shaking down check posts in the past few years, but the SPE has kept it out of focus. If there is an inquiry into the scam in the Transport Department, the agencies may tighten its noose on many public servants, but there is hardly any attention to this aspect.
According to sources, there is enough evidence to prove the collusion between Sharma and the officials of the department. But the agencies are keeping such people out of their net. His two accomplices Chetan and Sharad were arrested after Sharma was taken into custody, although they were not absconding.
The inquiry agencies are focusing on the investments made in the companies set up in the names of Sharma’s accomplices and his family members. On the other hand, the scam which continued in the transport department for a long time is still far away from probe agencies’ ambit.
