The US has announced the implementation of tariffs on goods imported from Canada, Mexico and China since Saturday. The White House issued a statement saying:
- Products imported from Canada and Mexico will cost 25% duty.
- 10% tariff will be applicable to goods coming from China.
However, the White House did not clarify whether any discounts would be given in them. It is believed that due to these tariffs, goods can be expensive for American consumers.
Donald Trump’s tariff policy
Republican leader and former US President Donald Trump recently announced these tariffs. He claims that:
- This step has been taken to prevent illegal immigration.
- This is necessary to ban the smuggling of chemicals used in phentineile construction.
- Through this, there is a plan to promote domestic manufacturing.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Lewitt said,
“These fees will be applicable from Saturday. This was the promise made by the President, which is now being fulfilled. “
Will there be exemption for oil imports?
Trump had indicated that exemption for oil imports from Canada and Mexico could be continued. However, no clear decision has been taken so far.
White House press secretary Levit said that he has no new information to share this possible discount.
Canada and Mexico reaction
- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that if the US implements the tariff, Canada is also ready to give a proper answer. However, he hasn’t shared any detailed strategy yet.
- Mexico President Claudia Shanbom said that if America implements this tariff, Mexico has many schemes for this (Plan A, Plan B, Plan C).
