Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The custody of children of CRPF constable Ravikant Verma was given to his elder brother Shivkumar by Misrod police.
The bodies of Ravikant and his wife Sarita aka Renu were handed over to their family members after the post-mortem.
Police officials said that children would remain under care of grandparents till both families reach an agreement over the issue and take some decision in this regard.
At present, children are under care of paternal grandparents. Family of Renu took her body to Gwalior while that of Ravikant was taken to Bhind for performing last rites.
According to additional police commissioner Rajnish Kashyap, couple left behind two children. Their son is aged six years while daughter is two-and-a-half years. The two children were in a state of shock and were kept under watch of women constables.
On Thursday evening, the children were given in custody of Ravikant’s elder brother Shivkumar who lives in Bhopal. The CRPF constable Ravikant Verma shot dead his wife and later killed himself with his service rifle late Wednesday night at their rented home at Bangrasia under Misrod police station. Preliminary investigations revealed that the couple was not on good terms and often used to scuffle.
The family of Renu alleged that she was harassed for dowry by Ravikant and his family members since their marriage in 2015. ACP Rajnish Kashyap said Renu’s family did not submit complaint to police yet.
