The Indian equity markets are going through an interesting period. With a major drop in its prospects and hope for a change in path, stakeholders are buckling up for a period of potential crests and troughs.

8 Days In February

While traders and investors can buy and sell shares on equity markets even on days when the Indian indices are not working.

However, those orders are only placed, and the shares are transferred into Demat accounts of holders during trading hours. The equity markets run for a period of 6 hours and 15 minutes in one trading session or a day.

The equity markets will not be officially functional on these days in February 2025. The markets will not be operational on a total of 8 days in February.

After the weekend, the indices will run for a full 5-trading-session week, after which Dalal Street will enter the weekend period on February 15, Saturday, and February 16, Sunday.

Interestingly, the equity markets will be functional and conducting a special session on the first day of the month, which is a Saturday. The markets will be working in D-day, the budget day.

Market Holidays In February

The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, will be presenting her 8th budget on February 1.

The markets, however, will remain closed on February 2, Sunday.

Thereafter the markets will run for a full-fledged week, without any interruptions. The next holidays come on February 8, Saturday, and February 9, Sunday.

After the weekend, the indices will run for a full 5-trading-session week, after which Dalal Street will enter the weekend period on February 15, Saturday, and February 16, Sunday.


After that, as per the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the exchanges will remain closed on February 26, Wednesday, on account of Mahashivratri.

Post the break, the markets will reopen on February 17, before closing on February 21, Friday. After the weekend period between February 22, Saturday and February 23, Sunday, the markets will reopen on February 23. However this will be a short week.

After resuming on February 27, the markets will have their last day of February 2025 on February 28, Friday, before opening for a brand new month.
