A Canadian report has questioned the claims of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in which he accused India of involvement in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The report clarified that this murder has no concrete relationship with any other country.

In addition, on Tuesday, India also dismissed allegations of electoral intervention in Canada and criticized Ottawa’s continuous interference in India’s internal affairs.

What was said in the report?

The report released by a federal commission in Canada states that it has not been proved that another country is involved in Nijjar’s murder. The report dismissed the allegations of Prime Minister Trudeau in which he claimed to be involved in Nijjar’s murder on Indian agents.

In September 2023, Trudeau stated that Canada had reliable evidence that the Indian government agents were involved in the murder of Nijjar in British Columbia in June 2023. However, this report now weakened his claims.

India’s response to allegations of electoral intervention

The report titled ‘Federal Election Processes and Public Investigation of Foreign Intervention in democratic institutions’ was released on Tuesday. It said that in the 2019 and 2021 elections in Canada, the Government of India is suspected of using proxy agents to provide financial assistance to candidates of three political parties.

However, India completely dismissed the report and accused Canada of continuous intervention in India’s internal affairs. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement saying,

“We have seen the report on alleged intervention. In fact, Canada has been continuously interfering in India’s internal affairs. ”

“In addition, Canada has created an atmosphere to promote illegal migration and organized criminal activities. We reject the allegations leveled against India and hope that the assistance system enabling illegal migration will not be tolerated. ”

Exposure of Indian and Canadian diplomats

The report also mentioned that in October 2024, Canada had expelled six Indian diplomats and consulate officials. In response, India also expelled six Canadian diplomats and called back its High Commissioner.

What will be ahead?

After the arrival of this report, tension in India-Canada relations may increase further. This report is a major setback for the Trudeau government, as they directly accused India. At the same time, India has been continuously accusing Canada of promoting Khalistani extremism in this case.

Now it has to be seen whether the Canadian government changes its attitude after this report.
