Mauni Amavasya 2025 Date
Mauni Amavasya, also known as Magha Amavasya, is an important day in the Hindu calendar that holds immense spiritual significance. Scheduled for January 29, 2025, this day marks the perfect time for devotees to take a sacred dip in the holy Ganges River.
It is believed that taking a holy dip in the Ganges during Mauni Amavasya cleanses the body, mind, and soul, offering devotees an opportunity for profound spiritual renewal.
For many, Mauni Amavasya is more than just a ritual—it’s a day to disconnect from the worldly hustle and engage in quiet meditation, fasting, and devotion. Whether you choose to meditate by the riverbank or participate in the sacred Amrit Snan (holy dip), this is a day that brings inner peace and spiritual enlightenment.
Travelling to Mauni Amavasya Snan with special trains every 4 minutes!
With an expected influx of devotees arriving for the Mauni Amavasya celebrations, the Prayagraj Railway Division has planned ahead with over 150 special trains running throughout the day, with one train every 4 minutes. This ensures that the vast number of pilgrims can travel without hassle, making it easier to attend this divine event.
According to reports, these special trains will operate from all nine stations across Prayagraj, including Prayagraj Junction, Subedarganj, Naini, and Prayagraj Sangam, to name a few. To enhance the experience further, the division has introduced colour-coded ticketing and shelter arrangements to ensure a seamless journey for all passengers.
Amit Malviya, Senior Public Relations Officer of the Prayagraj Railway Division, told PTI that the 150 special trains will surpass the 85 trains run during Mauni Amavasya in Kumbh 2019, with an expected 10-20% of the 10 crore devotees travelling by train. This record-breaking effort is aimed at efficiently managing the overwhelming crowd for the Amrit Snan at the Maha Kumbh Mela.
Mauni Amavasya significance in spirituality
Mauni Amavasya falls at the peak of the Magha month according to the North Indian lunar calendar, which is a time marked by significant spiritual practices. The day holds a profound connection to Lord Shiva, and it is believed that taking a dip in the Ganges on this day washes away sins and brings peace.
During the entire month of Magha, devotees from all over India and beyond come together to take part in this deeply spiritual journey, with many vowing to bathe in the Ganges daily, starting from Paush Purnima and continuing until Magha Purnima.
As the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 unfolds, Mauni Amavasya promises to be one of the most significant and spiritually enriching days of the festival.
