Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Despite strict ban, petrol is being sold in bottles at a petrol pump in Koh-e-Fiza area and some shops in densely populated areas of the city posing a threat to peace and security.

The violation of the ban is taking place even on Republic Day when guidelines issued by senior police officials include strict restriction on sale of petrol in bottles.

It is worth mentioning that a man recently set his SUV on fire at the district collectorate and even tried to immolate self. It came to the fore that he poured petrol on the SUV.

However, police did not bother to question the man as from where he got petrol in the bottle. Interestingly, the petrol pump where petrol is sold in bottles is close to the collectorate and Koh-e-Fiza police station.

Two videos that surfaced on Saturday showed that petrol was being given in bottles at the petrol pump and are mostly taken by auto drivers who keep it in reserve. Moreover, petrol is also being sold in bottles by some individuals in areas where petrol pumps are at a distance.

Two such shops are in Ibrahimpura and Regiment Road where petrol is sold in bottles by some shopkeepers discreetly, sources in these areas said.

Commissioner of Police Bhopal Harinarayanachari Mishra said instructions have been issued to ensure complete ban on sale of petrol in bottles and other containers. Investigations will be carried out and strict action will be ensured against owners of such petrol pumps where petrol is sold in violation of guidelines, he added.
