New Delhi, January 25: A shocking incident occurred at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 3 during security check on Saturday, January 25. The incident has highlighted the importance of staying vigilant during security checks at airports or any other public place. A passenger shared his alarming experience on social media, narrating how quick thinking saved him from losing his Apple Watch.
The individual identified as Dr. Tushar Mehta, who is an Orthopaedic Surgeon by profession, had placed his Apple Watch in the tray for the security check at Delhi Airport, realised it was missing moments after crossing the scanner. He asked the CISF personnel for assistance, who suggested rechecking his belongings. However, as he scanned the area, his attention was drawn to a man walking away while looking back suspiciously.
Trusting his instincts, the passenger followed the man and found him near the Titan Watches Helios store. Confronting the suspect, he forcibly checked the man’s pocket and recovered his Apple Watch. To his surprise, the store staff behaved oddly, seemingly trying to downplay the situation. This raised suspicions that the two might be connected.
The alleged thief, identified as Md. Saqib, managed to escape during the commotion, while the Helios store employee, Shoaib, attempted to shift blame onto the passenger. Matters escalated when a CISF officer approached the passenger, accusing him of being rude and asking for an apology.
The passenger resolved the situation by contacting a senior official who intervened over the phone. Following the brief call, the CISF officer allowed him to proceed to his flight.
This incident serves as a crucial reminder for passengers to be extra cautious about their belongings during security checks. The traveller also assured that he would address the matter with authorities after reaching his destination.
The Airport Sector, Central Industrial Security Force (ASP-CISF) took cognizance of the matter and asked the traveller to provide his PNR and contact number on social media. It said, “We request you to share your PNR and contact number via DM (Direct Message) for us to look into it.”
