A 79-year-old man was killed after being hit by the Thane Municipal Corporation’s garbage pickup vehicle while it was reversing on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Seetaram Sakharam Thoram, 79, who lived with his family members in the Santosh Nagar area in Diva.
About The Incident
The incident took place in Santosh Nagar near the Tulja Bhavani temple in Diva East on Friday when the driver of the vehicle, identified as Manoj Kadam, struck a man who was coming to throw away the garbage while the driver was reversing.
The police said that the locals and bystanders rushed to the spot and alerted the driver and cleaner about the incident. He was taken to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He suffered serious injuries to his head, leg.
According to the police, a case was registered against the driver of the vehicle under the relevant sections of the 106(1), 281 Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the relevant sections of the 184 of Motor Vehicle Act. The police are reviewing the CCTV footage installed in the nearby locality and trying to ascertain what exactly occurred at the time of the accident. Further investigation is underway.
