The story of ‘Haider’ is based on Kashmir of 1995, when militancy there was at its peak. There is an important scene in the film, when Shahid Kapoor cries uncontrollably in front of his father’s grave. Regarding this scene, Shahid said,
“When I went to shoot this shot, the camera was kept far away from me. I was given complete space. I did not use glycerine. I was left to stand there, in front of the grave. I don’t remember anything during the shot, but I do remember that my hands became numb because they were in the snow. That place was very cold. I also remember Vishal sir holding me and saying that the shot was completed a little earlier.”

When Shahid was asked whether it was possible to make such a controversial film based on politics in today’s time, he said,
“No, we cannot make controversial films now.”
