BCCI has recently announced the Indian team of 15 players for the Champions Trophy, in which Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul have been selected as wicketkeepers. Once again Sanju Samson’s name is missing from this list, due to which Harbhajan Singh seems unhappy. Harbhajan says that Samson’s ODI average is 55-56, yet he was not given a chance, and this disappoints him. Along with this, Harbhajan also expressed his displeasure over the non-selection of Yuzvendra Chahal.
Role of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul
KL Rahul has been the first choice wicketkeeper in the ODI format for a long time. At the same time, Rishabh Pant, who is returning after injury, has been selected as the backup wicketkeeper. Pant made a comeback in the ODI series against Sri Lanka after the car accident, but he could not do much in that series. Despite this, Sanju Samson is not able to make his place in the ODI team despite continuously proving his ability.
Harbhajan’s statement on Samson’s batting
Harbhajan Singh said on ignoring Sanju Samson,
“Really, I feel bad for him. He scores runs but is still given out. I know only 15 players can be selected, but I think his batting is perfectly suited for the ODI format. His average is 55-56, yet he is not even the second wicketkeeper. When we talk about choosing him, people ask in whose place? But space can be made.”
Harbhajan’s question on ignoring Yuzvendra Chahal
Apart from this, Harbhajan also commented on the omission of Yuzvendra Chahal and said that the selectors should have included a leg spinner in the squad for variation. He said,
“Sanju is not in the team, Yuzvendra Chahal is also not in the team. You have selected four spinners, two of which are left-arm. You could also include a leg spinner for variation. Chahal is a brilliant bowler, I don’t understand what he did wrong that he could not fit into this team.
