Indore: Big Electricity Bill Defaulters To Be Named And Shamed | Representative Image

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In a bid to tackle long-standing defaulters, Madhya Pradesh West Zone Electricity Distribution Company has decided to name and shame consumers who have failed to pay their electricity bills for extended periods, ranging from six months to two years.

Madhya Pradesh West Zone Electricity Distribution Company managing director Rajni Singh said that the company will soon publish a list of such defaulters. This list will be prominently displayed in key locations across the city making defaulters publicly accountable.

This decision and many others were taken in a four-hour meeting with 40 engineers from across the city on Friday. The MD also stressed the importance of regularising the accounts of these long-standing defaulters by March, with the goal of collecting overdue payments from every delinquent consumer.

Addressing the meeting, Singh shed light on the priority of both the Madhya Pradesh government and the electricity company to eliminate financial losses caused by defaulters and other inefficiencies. She made it clear that strict action will be taken against those responsible for financial losses, whether they are consumers involved in electricity theft or any personnel contributing to the company’s losses.

She also announced that all temporary electricity connections in Indore city will now be provided solely through smart meters. The new directive aims to provide accurate consumption data, track electricity usage, and ensure better monitoring of temporary connections.

As part of her broader strategy, Singh directed the engineers to take immediate action on several operational fronts, including maintenance of power infrastructure, reducing tripping in certain areas, and ensuring safety measures such as the installation of transformer gates and proper wiring.

Additionally, she called for a reduction in power losses and an increase in cash revenue collection per unit of electricity used. “We have more power resources in Indore compared to other cities, and we must live up to the expectations of delivering excellent results,” Singh remarked during the meeting.
