New Delhi: The political atmosphere has started to heat up in Delhi as the assembly elections are drawing closer. Delhi will witness a fierce electoral battle between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In the previous two assembly elections, the Arvind Kejriwal-led party not only registered a landslide victory but also decimated the opposition to single-digit.

In the 2015 polls, the AAP bagged 67 out of 70 seats, and the remaining constituencies were held by the BJP. In the 2020 assembly elections, the Kejriwal-led party negated the anti-incumbency factor and won 62 seats, while the BJP increased its tally to eight seats. The Congress, which ruled the state for 15 continuous years from 1998 to 2013, failed to even open its accounts in both terms.

Here Are The Seats BJP Won In 2020 Delhi Assembly Polls.

Rohini: BJP retained the seat by defeating AAP’s Rajesh Nama ‘Bansiwala’. The incumbent MLA Vijender Gupta defeated the AAP candidate by a margin of 12, 648 votes.

Badarpur: The seat was won by Ramvir Singh Bidhuri defetaing AAP’s Ram Singh Netaji by a margin of 3,719 votes. Over 9,000 votes were polled to Bidhuri. In the 2015 assembly elections, AAP’s Narayan Dutt Sharma had bagged the constituency.

Laxmi Nagar: BJP’s Abhay verma won the seat by a narrow margin of nearly 900 votes. He defetaed AAP’s sitting MLA Nitin Tyagi. Notably, AAP won the seat in 2013 and 2015 aseembly polls.

Vishwas Nagar: Om Prakash Sharma of BJP managed to retain the seat. He defeated AAP’s Deepak Singla by a margin of 16,457 votes.

Gandhi Nagar: Anil Kumar Bajpai retained Gandhi Nagar seat in the 2020 polls, However, this time as the BJP candidate. Bajpai, who won the seat in the 2015 polls on the AAP ticket, switched sides before the 2020 polls and contested on the saffron party’s ticket. He defeated his nearest rival AAP’s Naveen Chaudhary by a margin of over 6,000 seats.

Rohtas Nagar: Jitender Mahajan of the saffron party bagged the seat by defeating AAP MLA Sarita Singh by a margin of over 13,000 seats. Notably, Mahajan also won this seat in the 2013 polls, but was defetaed by Singh in the 2015 elections.

Ghonda: BJP’s Ajay Mahawar bagged the seat by a massive margin of over 28,000 seats efeating incumbent AAP MLA Shri Dutt Sharma.

Karawal Nagar: Mohan Singh Bisht of BJP defeated his nearest rival of AAP Durgesh Pathak by a margin of 8,223 votes. In the 2015 polls, Kapil Mishra won the seat on AAP ticket. However, he later joined BJP. Notably, Bisht also won the seat in 2013 polls.

Interestingly, Congress not only failed to open its account in the 2020 polls but also came at the distant third position in terms of vote share. The Congress contested 66 seats, while its alliance partner Rashtriya Janata Dal contested four seats.

The AAP’s vote share in the 2020 polls was around 54.4 per cent, while the BJP’s vote share was over 32 per cent. However, the percentage of votes polled to the Congress was just over 10.
