Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Alphabet (Google’s parent company) CEO Sundar Pichai have been named as the most influential global Indians in the HSBC Hurun Global Indians 2024 list. Indian-origin executives from the world’s top companies have been included in this list.

LN Mittal, who is the chairman of ArcelorMittal, has been described as the richest global Indian. His total wealth is Rs 1.84 lakh crore. This list was released on 22 January 2025, which showed the dominance of leaders and entrepreneurs of Indian origin from around the world.

Focus of the list: 200 most valuable companies

This report prepared by HSBC and Hurun India includes 200 companies which are led by executives of Indian origin.

  • The ranking of these companies has been done on the basis of their market valuation.
  • Listed companies in the stock market are ranked by their market capitalization, and non-listed companies by their valuation.
  • November 29, 2024 was used as the cut-off date for this list.

Involvement of key tech leaders

The list also includes other influential Indian-origin tech leaders:

  1. Tomas Kurian – CEO of Google Cloud.
  2. Neil Mohan – CEO of YouTube.
  3. Vaibhav Taneja – Chief Financial Officer of Tesla.

The combined value of the companies of these leaders is more than 10 trillion dollars.

Global dominance of Indian-origin executives

  • 79% of the officers live in the US.
  • 5% of the officers are in the UK and 4% of the officers are in the UAE.
  • San Francisco has the maximum number of 37 top officials.
  • It is followed by New York and Palo Alto, California.

Leadership of first generation entrepreneurs

  • 57% of executives are first generation entrepreneurs.
  • 41% officers are professionals.
  • Only 2% of officers serve as successors.
  • The names of Anil Bhusri of Workday and Prem Vats of Fairfax Financial Holdings are also included among the top entrepreneurs.

12 women have also been given place in this list.

  • Reshma Kevalramani – CEO of Vertex Pharmaceuticals, at the top position.
  • Jayshree Ullal – Head of Arista Networks.
  • Leena Nair – Global CEO of Chanel.

Leena Nair has been recognized as the most influential woman of Indian origin.

Nadella and Pichai got special recognition

Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai were selected as the most influential Indian-origin leaders in this report. More than half of the people who participated in the survey voted for him, which can be gauged from his popularity and leadership ability.
