Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Seven accused were arrested on Wednesday in connection with manhandling policemen and damaging government vehicle near Regional Park. The accused were celebrating the birthday of a youth and were creating ruckus there when the police reached there after receiving complaint from the residents. When the accused were taken to the crime scene for the investigation, the local residents also came there and paraded the accused with drums.
Rajendra Nagar police station in charge Neeraj Birthare informed Free Press that some youths were celebrating the birthday of one Shubham Dangi near Regional Park on Monday night and were creating ruckus.
After receiving a complaint, beat constables Rahul and Pawan from Rajendra Nagar police station reached the spot and told the youth to leave the place but the accused started an argument with them and also manhandled the policemen.
One of the accused was carrying a firearm and some of them damaged the government vehicle and threatened the policemen. Someone had made a video of the incident. The policemen later informed the senior officers and a police force was sent to the spot but by then the accused had fled the scene.
After registering a case under various sections including the Arms Act, a team was constituted to search for accused and it managed to arrest seven of them on Wednesday by raiding many places in the area. A firearm was also seized from the accused.
Birthare said that the accused had also changed their appearance by tonsuring themselves in order to mislead the police. They were taken to the crime scene for investigation and to collect the evidence.
The residents also reached the spot and started beating drums. They also made the accused do sit-ups in the area. The police are searching for their accomplices and further investigation is on into the matter.
