Two decades of dedication and care have transformed a once barren land under a high-tension power line at Belapur  into a thriving, fertile space producing rich yields of fruits, vegetables and flowers. This remarkable man-made marvel, known as Agro Garden, is set to host its annual festival, Basantotsav , allowing citizens to witness its progress and participate in engaging activities.

The Basantotsav will take place on February 2, from 10 AM to 8 PM, with an entry fee of Rs 200 per person. The event promises a day filled with nature-inspired experiences and educational opportunities.

Spanning over an acre of previously unattended land, Agro Garden has been meticulously developed into a densely green zone. Today, it boasts over 300 full-grown trees, numerous plant varieties, a medicinal garden, and designated areas that attract butterflies, making it a paradise for nature lovers.

“This vast patch of land lies parallel to a residential colony. Back in the 1990s, residents noticed the increasing encroachment on this barren area and decided to reclaim it for the benefit of the community. With permissions from CIDCO, they began developing the space into a flourishing garden,” said one of the garden’s managing members.

Over the years, Agro Garden has gained popularity among nature enthusiasts due to its excellent maintenance and ecological efforts. The Basant Mela serves as an opportunity for citizens to understand the efforts behind the transformation of the land.

“The festival is a platform for visitors to learn about  planting, shrubs and trees. For the festival focus will be on creating compost, appreciating the bounty of nature and making the children aware about the ecosystem ,” said an event organizer.
