This means that this rule will only apply to people born after February 19, 2025, because the order was signed on January 20, 2025 and will come into effect 30 days later.

According to Trump’s order, if one of the parents of the newborn baby is not an American citizen or green card holder, then that child will not get American citizenship. This policy may particularly affect Indian immigrants, including H-1B, L1 visa holders, dependent visa (H4), student visa (F1) and other short-term visa holders.
