Mumbai: Chaos erupted in Mumbai’s Jogeshwari East area on Wednesday after the railway administration took action against encroachment. According to reports, unauthorised houses were located in the railway boundary. A march was taken out by slum dwellers against the railway administration. Police also reached the spot to control the situation.

Some social media users shared videos claiming that police resorted to lathi-charge. However, the authenticity of the videos could not be verified independently by Free Press Journal.

Statement By Mumbai Police:

A heavy police deployment was made in the area to avoid any untoward incident. The Jogeshwari Police detained the protestors as they did not have permission to march.

As per the Mumbai Police, the process of registering a case against the slum dwellers who are protesting without permission has started.

Jogeshwari is a suburb located in the western part of the maximum city.
