Maruti Suzuki India has introduced its first battery electric vehicle (BEV) e-Vitara in the Indian market. The company will officially launch it in March 2025. This is Suzuki Motor Corporation’s first BEV, and this model is very important for the company globally. The e-Vitara will be produced at Maruti’s Gujarat plant and will be exported to over 100 countries including Japan and European countries. Additionally, the e-Vitra will be the second Maruti SUV to be exported from India to Japan after the Frontex.
Production will take place in Gujarat plant
Maruti Suzuki will start production of the e-Vitara in the spring of this year and will also start sales immediately. Notably, a fourth production line has been set up at the Gujarat plant to cater to EVs. As of now, the Gujarat plant has an annual production capacity of 7,50,000 units, but the company has not made any official statement regarding the capacity of the fourth line. Nevertheless, Maruti aims to become the number one manufacturer of EVs in India.
500Km range on single charge
The e-Vitara is based on the HEARTECT-E platform, which is a new platform for BEVs. It has two battery pack options (49kWh and 61kWh). It claims to give a maximum range of 500Km once fully charged. Additionally, it gets LED DRLs, LED headlamps, LED taillamps, 18-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels, and an integrated display system with a 10.1-inch infotainment screen. Along with this, it has a 10-way power-adjust driver seat and sliding and reclining rear seats with 40:20:40 split.
Security Features
The e-Vitara comes with state-of-the-art safety features like 7 airbags and Level 2 ADAS as standard. Apart from this, the next generation Suzuki Connect will also be available with over 60 features.
price and competition
Ex-showroom price of Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara in India is expected to start from around Rs 18 lakh. It will compete with Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, Tata Curve, and MG ZS EV.
