Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A video clip has surfaced on social media showing Valmik Karad, Sudarshan Ghule and Vishnu Chate – three accused in an extortion case linked to the murder of sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh – walking together.
The purported video also features a police officer, who has since been suspended, seen accompanying the accused trio along with a group of others.
Although it is not clear when the video was captured, claims are now being made that it was shot on December 9 before Deshmukh, the sarpanch of Massajog village in Beed district, was abducted and brutally killed, allegedly for opposing an extortion bid by some persons who had demanded money from a windmill company.
After the video went viral, BJP MLA Suresh Dhas from Ashti in Beed said, “This shows that the accused are linked to extortion and murder. Police inspector (Rajesh) Patil should be named as a co-accused in the case. Police officer Mahajan should be suspended and action should be taken against police officer Garje who made a wrong statement against the sitting MP (Bajrang Sonawane).”
Meanwhile, Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar on Tuesday alleged irregularities in the implementation of the crop insurance scheme in Beed during the tenure of former state agriculture minister Dhananjay Munde of the NCP. Wadettiwar called for the formation of a special committee to investigate the matter.
“The Beed pattern is not about helping farmers. It was planned with corruption in mind,” Wadettiwar alleged in a statement.
