Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge described Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as ‘woman power’ and Rahul Gandhi as ‘youth power’ during a party convention in Belagavi, Karnataka. He compared Priyanka Gandhi with freedom struggle heroines Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi and Kittur Rani Chennamma.
Praise of Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi
Kharge said, “If anyone is the queen of Jhansi today, it is Priyanka Gandhi. She is as strong as Kittur Queen Chennamma. He stabilized the family after the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi.” He also added that Congress has women power in the form of Priyanka Gandhi and youth power in the form of Rahul Gandhi.

Sharp attack on BJP and RSS
Kharge accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of accusing Constitution maker Dr. B.R. Ambedkar has been insulted. Taking aim at the BJP and RSS, he said:
- RSS and BJP are trying to create differences between Gandhi, Ambedkar, Nehru and Sardar Patel.
- BJP has in the past used the names of Ambedkar, Nehru and Gandhi for political gains.
- RSS is harassing students from Dalit and backward communities in universities and stopping their participation in government jobs.
Comment on Godse and Savarkar
Kharge held Nathuram Godse responsible for the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi and said that Godse was a disciple of Hindutva thinker Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. He accused the BJP of pretending to respect Gandhi and supporting Godse.
Ambedkar’s election issue
Kharge claimed that Congress had helped Ambedkar in the elections, while Savarkar and S.A. were responsible for his defeat. Dange was responsible. He accused BJP of making political use of Ambedkar’s name.
