Actress Yamini Malhotra, who was recently seen in the reality show Bigg Boss 18, took to her social media on Tuesday and opened up on her struggle to find a house in Mumbai. She claimed that she was refused places to rent after people found out she is an actress.
Yamini added that brokers have also been asking her questions about her religion and ethnicity. The Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin actress took to her Instagram stories and wrote, “Hello guys, I just want to share something that’s been really disheartening. As much as I love Mumbai, finding a home here has been a tough journey. I have been asked questions like, ‘Are you Hindu or Muslim?’ ‘Gujarati or Marwadi?’ And as soon as people hear I am an actor, they outright refuse.”
She went on to rant, “Does being an actor make me less deserving of a home? It’s shocking how these questions still exist in 2025. Can we really call this the city of dreams if dreams come with condition?”
Yamini, who originally hails from Delhi, is a qualfied dentist, who is now following her passion of being an actress. Besides Ghum Hai Kisike Pyaar Meiin, she also featured in Main Teri Tu Mera, and the 2016 Telugu film, Chuttalabbai.
The actress had entered Bigg Boss 18 as a wildcard contestant, however, she was eliminated from the house within a few weeks.
This is not the first time that an actor has rued about not being able to find a house in Mumbai due to discrimination. In 2023, Uorfi Javed had shared that Hindu owners refused to rent her a house in the city because she was Muslim, and Muslims did not let her rent their house because of her sartorial choices.
“Muslim owners don’t want to rent me house cause of the way I dress, Hindi owners don’t want to rent me cause I’m Muslim. Some owners have an issue with the political threats I get. Finding a rental apartment in Mumbai is so tuff (sic),” she had tweeted on X.
