Recognising the challenges which constables face while communicating and corresponding in English, the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) has started organising English -speaking and writing workshops. The pilot project was recently launched for the first batch of fifteen newly recruited constables attached to the Achole police station.

The MBVV Police Commissionerate has roped in an expert teacher for developing-both oral and written communication skills in English. The course which is being held at a hall adjacent to the Achole police station will have a duration of 60 days, with sessions scheduled six days per week, each lasting for one hour.

“Apart from vocabulary, our cops need to be tech-savvy while dealing or replying to emails while corresponding with various institutions-especially in cyber fraud and social media related cases-which are mostly in English language. The workshops are aimed to enhance the amicable temperament and hone the communication skills of our police personnel be it speaking or writing during their daily interactions.”  said DCP (Zone II)- Pournima Chougle-Shringi.

The participating constables will attend the sessions after their duty hours so that the routine work of the police station is not hampered.  The pilot-project will soon be replicated across all police stations and various other departments including- crime branch, cyber cell, anti-human-trafficking unit and anti-narcotics cell. “Apart from polishing their communication and corresponding skills, the training will not only boost the confidence of participating constables but also enhance their prospects for career advancement.” said a senior police officer.

In the first phase of the training project, the MBVV police is primarily focusing on the 1,000-odd new recruits in the constabulary section who added teeth to the short-staffed police force. Right from patrolling, administrative work to detection, constables play a very important role in the policing apparatus.
