Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray met NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar in Mumbai amid differences over alliance for the upcoming local body elections in Maharashtra. According to sources, Thackeray held talks for over an hour at Pawar’s south Mumbai residence ‘Silver Oak’.
Pawar, who has played a key role in the formation of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), recently said that he is planning to join hands with the three major parties in the alliance—Nationalist Congress Party (SP), Shiv Sena (UBT), Bhopal to resolve the differences within the MVA. And are planning to call a meeting of Congress.
However, Shiv Sena (UBT) has already announced that it will contest the local body elections alone. Pawar made it clear that the national and state level elections were to be fought under the ‘India’ alliance formed at the national level and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) formed in Maharashtra respectively, but no such decision was taken for the local level elections. Didn’t happen.
“We never discussed contesting elections together at the local body level,” he said. In this context, this decision of Shiv Sena (UBT) has raised questions on the unity and viability of the MVA. Currently, Mahavikas Aghadi consists of Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (SP), and Congress.
