The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has issued interim directions to Maple Biotech Pvt. Ltd., located in Bhosari MIDC, Pune, over concerns related to environmental compliance.
The board issued the directions on Thursday, January 17, under section 31 A of the Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.
Maple Biotech Pvt. Ltd. has been asked to submit a time-bound action plan for compliance as recommended by the board. Under these directives, the company is required to dismantle its machinery used for the pulp digestion process and obtain an amended consent from the Board within a month. Additionally, it must install an air pollution control system and a dust collection system within the same timeframe. The treatment plant is also mandated to be dismantled immediately as the pulp digestion process is set to be discontinued.
While hearing the matter, a proposal submitted by the Sub Regional Officer, Pimpri Chinchwad, and a proposed direction issued by the Board in November 2024 was reviewed. A personal hearing was extended to the company on November 22, 2024, where the company’s representatives presented their submissions. However, after considering these submissions and reviewing the report from the Sub Regional Officer, Pune-I, the Board has decided to issue strict interim directions to ensure environmental compliance.
Here’s what MPCB officer said
JS Salunkhe, regional officer of MPCB Pune, said, “We have directed the Sub Regional Officer of MPCB, Pimpri Chinchwad, to maintain detailed records and conduct regular monitoring of methane levels to ensure compliance with the lower explosive limit. The company is required to dismantle its machinery used for the pulp digestion process. The monitoring reports should be submitted regularly to confirm adherence to the standards.”
To ensure compliance, the company has been instructed to submit a fresh bank guarantee of ₹50,000 to the MPCB’s Regional Office in Pune within 15 days. Furthermore, it must provide a detailed action-taken report within the same period. Failure to adhere to these directives may result in further legal action by the Board.
