A group of 121 farmers, who were on a fast unto death at the Khanauri protest site, ended their indefinite fast on Sunday after farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal sought medical help. Dallewal (70) had refused to seek medical aid after starting his fast unto death on November 26, but he agreed to accept medical aid after he was invited by the Center for talks on February 14 to discuss the farmers’ demands. decision made.

With his health deteriorating and the government not paying heed to their demands, a group of 111 farmers joined Dallewal’s fast at Khanauri on the Haryana border on January 15. After this, on January 17, 10 more farmers from Haryana joined them. In the presence of Deputy Inspector General of Police Mandeep Singh Sidhu and Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Nanak Singh, 121 farmers ended their fast by drinking juice.

A high-level central delegation led by Priya Ranjan, joint secretary of the Union agriculture ministry, met farmer leader Dallewal and representatives of the United Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha on Saturday. In this meeting he was invited to resume talks in Chandigarh on 14 February.

However, farmer leaders clarified that Dallewal will not end his indefinite fast until a legal guarantee of minimum support price for crops is given.
