A modern four-lane economic corridor is being built from Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, to Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The main objective of this project is to make travel between the two cities easier and faster. This 526 km long corridor will be built in four phases, out of which work on the first phase has started. The Central Government has sanctioned ₹3,589.4 crore for this project.

However, with the construction of this corridor, the distance between Bhopal and Kanpur will not be reduced much, but the travel time will be reduced by about two hours.

360 km road will be built in Madhya Pradesh

About 360 km in Madhya Pradesh under the Bhopal-Kanpur Economic Corridor. Road will be constructed.

  • Major parts of Madhya Pradesh:
    The road will start from Bhopal and reach Satai Ghat in Vidisha, Gyaraspur, Sagar, and Chhatarpur.
  • Connection up to Uttar Pradesh border:
    A road will be built from Satai Ghat to Kaimah in Uttar Pradesh. The distance from Kaimah to Kanpur is about 165 km. Is.
  • Inclusion of Sagar-Kabarai Highway:
    Sagar-Kabarai Highway passing through Chhatarpur will also be a part of this corridor.

The project will be completed by 2026

The project was announced by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in January 2023.

  • At present Bhopal and Kanpur are connected by two-lane roads, which makes traffic slow and journeys long.
  • Benefits of having four lanes:
    • The roads will be wide and flat.
    • There will be ease in traffic.
    • Travel time will be reduced by approximately two hours.
  • Construction Deadline:
    This ambitious project is targeted to be completed by 2026.
